Along with a trend toward living a longer, healthier life, more and more patients are looking to physicians to help them achieve a more youthful appearance. The skin's natural aging process manifests as contour changes and wrinkles, secondary to the depletion of subcutaneous fat, the loss of dermal collagen and hyaluronic acid (AH). The average adult human body contains 7-8 g of AH, which will decrease dramatically with age, causing folds and wrinkles.
Traditionally, rejuvenation has been achieved with a face-lift by surgically tightening the skin. Today, a multitude of minimally invasive procedures are aimed at rejuvenation without the recovery time and expenses of major surgeries.
AH dermal fillers are being used more and more to help reverse the changes associated with aging. Because the goal is to return the dermis to its original youthful state, AH dermal fillers can give a more natural appearance. A AH filler can be used by itself or as a complementary treatment to Botox®. can be injected within minutes, with minimal discomfort and you will see an immediate improvement. AH dermal fillers are being used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, raise scar depressions, enhance lips, and replace soft-tissue volume loss.
The Juvéderm® product is considered the latest innovation in AH Fillers. It's the only AH approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), that lasts up to 12 months. It's a colorless gel which is injected into facial tissues, providing a long-lasting natural look and feel
The injection process takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. You will also need to allow time to consult with the doctor / injector prior to treatment.
Like all filler treatments, there may be some discomfort during and following the injection, although the addition of the New Juvéderm® Lidocaine product has considerably diminished the discomfort associated with the injections. Juvéderm® filler is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to minimize potential discomfort. The smooth gel may also minimize discomfort during the treatment.
